Cheyne Walk, Chelsea: A Literary Walk

When I lived in Dublin, one my favourite spots in the city was Merrion Square, surrounded by rows and rows of colourful doors which formerly belonged to its literary residents. Almost each famous Georgian door around the Square has a blue plaque next to it as an indication of the house’s historic significance. And it wasn’t only the blue spots giving away the buildings importance; there were always tourists as well, loitering, stopping, snapping a photo or two.

The Mousetrap – performance no. 26029

I am a hard-boiled fan of British murder mysteries. For me, it all started with Hercule Poirot and his “little grey cells”, and since then, my reading repertoire has included Dorothy M. Sayers, Arthur Conan Doyle and P.D. James. I read these classics seldom (only as a treat after a productive working period or when suffering from a flue attack), and I rarely venture outside this comfort zone of, well, grisly murder plots.

Hatchards, 187 Piccadilly

Hatchards bookshop at Piccadilly is Britain’s oldest bookstore, more famous for its booky clientele than, for example, for hosting the Royal Horticultural Society’s first meeting in 1804. The customers in Hatchards include many book mongers from royalties to Lord Byron and Oscar Wilde, Lauren Bacall, Margaret Thatcher and Stephen Fry.

On Living in London – And Being a Sucker for Britlit

Recently some really nice things have come my way what it comes to travel, literature and writing.

Firstly, one massive writing project is closing to its (well over-due) completion, which gives me more time to explore other possible, even more massive writing projects, about which I am very excited. Sadly, I still have to hold my proverbial horses till I can brag about this one particular project in public, but…

Photo Project London 7 x 53 aka All Things Delightful!

Tästä virheestä oppineena uusi projektini on nimeltään London 7 x 53, eli julkaisen yhden viikon kuvat kerralla: seitsemän kuvaa vuoden jokainen viikko. Pakkomielle vuodessa pitää mielen terveenä. Tervetuloa seuraamaan Facebook-sivuilleni projektini edistymistä – ja mielenterveydellistä tasoani!

It has been decided, and the decision is irreversible: I begun a new photo project that takes a year to complete, only a week after my previous project, which took a year to finish, ended. The idea of my previous project, Dublin365, was to add a photo per day to my Facebook album. I learnt from the mistake, and the new project is called London 7 x 53: I will publish one week’s photos at one go. That means seven photos each week of the year. As I say, an obsession a year makes a heathy mind. Welcome to follow my project on the Facebook page – and to keep an eye on the mental health levels…

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Christmas time is for slowing down for a few days, burying yourself under a cosy blanket, enjoying some chocolate and red wine, and read till you cannot keep your eyes open anymore. Sounds simple? Maybe, but getting into that cosy atmosphere, when everything is just as it should be, requires some preliminary arrangements and a lot of extra effort: that is, the effort of finding the Christmas spirit.
